Habitat for Humanity in Round Rock,TX

I was invited to participate in the opening of a new Habitat for Humanity ReStore facility in Round Rock, Texas. During my photography career I have been involved with Habitat for Humanity for more than 30 years. I remember on 9/11 2001 I was working in Washington, DC. On that day I was heading to a Habit for Humanity build in Washington a few blocks behind the U.S. Capitol. I was driving up there with 2 other photographers. We didn't have the car radio on because we were talking about the day and what we would photograph. When we arrived a crowd of volunteers surrounded my car and asked us if we knew what had happened. Not knowing anything we turned on the radio to hear about the planes crashing in New York City. Then we heard a loud explosion. It was the Pentagon! Everyone immediately left the Habitat build and the world was never the same. Photos I took that day on my Nikon D200 are now in the U.S. Archives.
I continued to support Habitat for Humanity over the years and here I am back in Texas still at it. Photo taken with a Nikon D750 transferred to my iPhone 6S Plus for editing in Camera+. Habitat was posting my photos on their Facebook page.

David Valdez's photography career

I'm always asked how I got into photography.  It really wasn't something I planned, it just happened.  Although I do believe it was God's plan for my life.  In 1967, my Dad retired from a career in the Air Force just a few months before I graduated from Highland High School in Albuquerque.   He moved to Dallas to take a job with the Federal Government, leaving my Mom and I in Albuquerque until I graduated. She and I then followed my dad to Dallas.
While I was in high school, I had always thought I would go to the University of New Mexico.  But by the time we moved to Dallas, I had been drafted into the military.  There wasn't enough time to get into a university in Texas since I was supposed to report by that September 1967.  I realized I would have go into the military. I chose the U.S Air Force. I enlisted in Dallas and was driven on a bus to Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas for basic training. After completion of basic training I received my orders that I would be a photographer and I was stationed at McDill AFB in Tampa, Florida assigned to the 836th Combat Support Group. More to come...

Corvette Invasion 2016

I own a 2002 C5 Corvette. This past weekend I participated in an event called the Corvette Invasion, held at the Circuit of Americas Formula 1 Race Track in Austin Texas, managing the Corvette Invasion Instagram account. Visit the Corvette Invasion site to see more photos. I primarily used my Nikon D750 with 28-300 Nikon zoom lens. My second camera was my GoPro Hero 4 . The GoPro was the best when I was riding in the passenger seat of a beautiful C7 2015 Red Corvette Convertible. With both the Nikon D750 and the GoPro I used their respective iPhone Apps to transfer images from the cameras to my iPhone 6S Plus so I could post images on Instagram and Facebook. The GoPro app is also allows me to use the iPhone as my view finder using the wifi feature in the GoPro. Once I download images from either camera to my iPhone 6S Plus I usually do some editing in the Camera+ App on my iPhone.

iPhone Photography

I've been a Nikon photographer for 48 years and will always use my Nikons but I have found an important place for using my
iPhone 6S Plus for social media. My first real use for a client was on a political campaign I worked on. The client wanted images posted live on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram while the candidate was speaking. The iPhone solved that easily.

When I need more than what my iPhone 6S Plus can give me I turn to my Nikon D750 and use the wifi options built into the Nikon D750.
On my iPhone I use the app Camera+   as my primary camera how ever the iPhone camera is a powerful tool on its own.

Photography Walk in Georgetown

I recently held a photo walk for the Sun City Camera Club touring the historic courthouse in beautiful Georgetown, Texas. We talked about lighting and composition. One of the main tips I hope they walked away with was to clean the lens on their phone camera and to have full battery power.

When we were finished the whole group went across the street to Roots Bistro to download and post photos on Instagram.
My work flow for using Instagram is two fold. i either use my iPhone 6S Plus with a Mophie battery case or my Nikon D750 with wifi.
On the Nikon D750 when I'm ready to download images I go to the menu and turn on the wifi transferring photos to my iPhone 6S Plus using the Nikon WMU app. When you do that the photos go straight into the Photos album. From there I either use Snapped or Camera+ to edit the photos before posting to Instagram. My Instagram account name is davidvaldezusa . Feel free to follow me to see more of my new images.
