The Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communication believes firmly that robust and open debate is essential to the health of our nation’s democracy. To ensure the future of that debate, The Marlin Fitzwater Center for Communications at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, is dedicated to educating leaders of conscience in public communication. This conference reaches out to our nation’s high school media. In one short five day span, we introduced some of the country’s most engaged youth to the dynamics of presidential election politics, the role of the media who cover it, and the relationship between the two. Marlin Fitzwater, Former White House Press Secretary for President Reagan and President Bush (41), Gene Gibbons former UPI and Reuters reporter for 41 years and David Valdez former Presidential photographer and Director of the White House Photo Office for President George H. W. Bush were the featured speakers. Dr. Kristen Nevious headed up the conference and received great reviews from the students. Photos of David Valdez taken by: Sarah Eastland.
